こんにちは！ういです！最近はアイルランドも暖かい日々が続いております(*^^*)
そんななか先日、UCDに去年まで留学していたゴッピーさんがアイルランドに遊びにきてくれましたー！留学中のエピソード、大変だったことや楽しかったことまでインタビューをさせていただいたので早速ご紹介したいと思います(^○^)！

Hi everyone, I’m Ui! It’s getting warm these days in Ireland☀️
On the other day, Goppi, who studied at UCD last year, came to Ireland 🇮🇪! I had an interview with him about the experience in Ireland! He had a lot of interesting experience in Ireland from hard things to enjoyable things. Now I’d like to introduce them!

[アイルランドの印象]
最初はアイルランドの音楽が好きだっただけなんですけれどもアイルランドって言う国に入学して音楽だけじゃなくて音楽の周りにあるお酒だったり、その食事だったりダンスだったり会話だったりって言う文化が全部好きになりましたね。特に日本人とアイルランド人は人との関わりを大切にするという点で似ているところがあることに気づきました。例えばアイルランド音楽のセッションでは一人ひとりの演奏と存在を大切にするところがあり、自分にはすごく合っていました。

[Impression of Ireland]
I started out with liking Irish music, but after I came to Ireland, I was getting to like the culture surrounding it such as food, dance, conversation… Japanese people and Irish people are similar in that they value relationships with other people. For example, in the Irish music session, people thought our playing and existence were important and it suited for me.

[来る前と後の印象]
アイルランドに来る前と後の印象なんですけれども、よくも悪くもそんなに変わっていないですね。自分の場合は好きな音楽があってその音楽を通じて演奏の友達や音楽が好きな友達ができて自分が思い描いていたような留学生活が送れたかなと思っています。強いて言うならばヨーロッパと日本の大学のシステムの違いっていうものに気がついてすごく興味深いなと感じることが多かったです。

[Impressions before and after coming to Ireland]
Even after I came to Ireland my impression of this country did not change. I was able to make a lot of new friends who shared a passion for music and performance, and all in all, I feel that I was able to have the ideal study abroad experience. In addition to that, I was able to realize some interesting differences between Irish and Japanese college systems.

[留学中のエピソード]
留学中はお金がなかったので食費を路上演奏で稼いでいました。そこでちょっと出会った音楽友達であったり、アイリッシュパブで演奏して出会った仲間と今でも連絡を取ったりできるのはすごく嬉しいですね。
アイルランドはヨーロッパの他の国への飛行機が安いのでいろんな国に旅行に行ってたのも良い思い出です。

[Episodes during the stay]
I didn’t have enough money so I tried to earn some by busking. I’m so glad that I was able to meet new friends there, and to keep in touch with people I met while performing in pubs. There are many cheap flights to other European countries, so I made many more wonderful memories on those travels as well!

[大変だったこと]
留学中に大変だったのはビザ(GNIB)ですね。ビザの取得が全然できなくて何度も何度もイミグレーションセンターに電話をしたりメールをしたりして予約とることができました。多分全部で30時間位予約に使ったかなと思います。もしアイルランドに来る予定のある人はピザの予約は早めにするようにした方がいいと思います。

[The biggest struggle]
It was so hard to get get registered at the immigration office (GNIB card). I called and sent emails to the immigration centre again and again, and was finally able to secure an appointment. I think it took about 30 hours just for booking. I recommend people to book early if you’re planning to come to Ireland.

[授業中]
授業は基本的にはスライドもありますしまぁついていけると思うのですが、少人数のゼミでディスカッションなどをするときに周りの話が全くわからなくて焦ったことを覚えています。特に議論が白熱するとみんな早口になるので何を言ってるのかわからずそんな中で突然自分の発言を求められたりするときついです。対処方法としてはみんなが言ってることを全部聞くのは諦めてキーワードを拾って話の内容を大まかにつかむところから始めました情けない方法かもしれませんが何もわからない状況から脱するにはこれが大事な方法かなと思います

[Classes]
In the classes, the presentation slides were prepared so it didn’t seem to be difficult to follow. However, when we had discussions in class, it was hard to follow my classmates’ conversations. Especially when they begin heating up with debates, they spoke so quickly and when I was asked to provide an opinion it was hard to answer. I eventually gave up attempting to understand everything they said and instead tried to catch the keywords being said. It might sound a little lame, but it’s a good tip to come through when you understand nothing that’s being said!

[楽しかったこと]
アイルランド留学で1番楽しかったのはやはり毎日行われるアイリッシュパブでのセッションですかね。最初はメンバーとして受け入れてもらえてはいなかったかもしれないのですが何度も通ううちに自分のための席が用意されていたり演奏を聴いてお客さんが褒めてくれたり奢ってくれたりするの、自分がセッションのメンバーの一員として認められてきたなと言うことを実感できてよかったです

[The best experience]
The most enjoyable experience were the Irish music sessions at the pubs every day. At first, I wasn’t accepted as a member but after I played a few times, eventually they would prepare a seat for me and the costumers would praise my performances. I was glad that I could feel like I was getting to be accepted as a member of the session.

[旅行]
アイルランドはあまり知られていませんが自然豊かな国で西の田舎のほうに旅行に行くと本当に素敵な景色がたくさん見られるんですね。アイルランドのゴールウェイと言うところにあるアランアイランドに行ったんですがそこで黒い犬が僕たちを何回も何十キロも案内してくれて彼についていって島の絶景をサイクリングして回ったのは忘れられない思い出ですね。

人生で初めて海外のロックフェスに参加したことも思い出に残っています。僕はずっとロックミュージックが好きだったのでその本拠地であるイギリスのロックフェスに参加できたのもすごくいい思い出として残っていますね

[Travel]
Ireland isn’t as well known to Japanese people, but there are lots of green and in rural areas, and you can see amazing scenery. I definitely own’t forget cycling around the Aran Islands in Galway, where a black dog lead us through for tens of kilometres of beautiful nature.

I also attended my first ever rock music festival outside of Japan. I’ve loved rock music for so long, and I’m glad I was able to experience it in England, the birthplace of the genre!
